This major sports development in Bristol provides opportunities for young people of all ages and abilities throughout the south-west.
The purpose-built gymnastics centre, based in Hartcliffe, provides for the teaching, coaching and performance of gymnastics at all levels up to and including national and international standard. Facilities include the main hall and performance area, training stage, fully equipped dance studio, changing rooms, servery / viewing area, reception and offices.
The building is based on a simple rectilinear form to accommodate the critical spatial requirements for gymnastics. Part of our brief was to carefully design and integrate all the specialist equipment, including run-up and safety margins, in to the overall scheme.
The elevations have a robust brick plinth with silver solid-core laminate cladding under a generous over-sailing roof.
Internally the main hall is airy and light, with ‘soft’ natural lighting achieved by using ‘Kalwall’, a semi-translucent cladding that provides up to 20% light transmission whilst offering good thermal insulation and reduced solar glare.
