The new Tor Ward at Musgrove Park Hospital has been formed by the creative conversion of non-medical areas into much needed clinical facilities. The new admissions and assessment accommodation includes a 20-bed ward with auxiliary and isolation rooms, central nurses’ work station, patient showers and toilets, staff changing rooms, staff kitchen, four examination rooms with two consulting rooms, 4-bed investigation ward and visitors’ waiting area.
Importantly, the project had to be undertaken within a ‘live’ hospital site which demanded careful phasing of the works and clear communication between the client, consultant team & contractor.
Key environmental benefits include:
- Re-use of an existing building
- The use of high-efficiency lighting
- The use of recycled or recyclable materials wherever possible
